Wages
Generally, young workers must be paid at least the minimum wage and applicable overtime rates. The current California minimum wage as of January 1, 2008 is $8.00 per hour. A few California cities have adopted a minimum wage above $8.00 per hour; contact the appropriate city government for details. Some common exceptions exist for babysitting, and companionship services. See Child Labor Laws, or contact the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement for details.
