State Compensation Insurance Fund will hold a free seminar highlighting two important topics: “safety compliance and return-to-work programs” in San Francisco on December 4.
Featured speakers include Roslyn Goode, State Fund Return-to-Work Coordinator; Lisa Prince, Attorney at Law with Walter Law Firm; and Michael Donlon, Senior Safety Engineer with Cal/OSHA Professional Development and Training Unit.
In the first part of the seminar, State Fund’s Goode will speak on the merits of having an effective return-to-work program in place. The implementation of a written return-to-work program minimizes an injured employee’s time away from work. Employers will learn how to develop, implement and monitor an effective program. In addition, attendees will understand why Senate Bill 899 legislation promotes return-to-work.
In the second part of the seminar, “How Can Employers Address Serious Cal/OSHA Citations?,” Ms. Prince will explain to employers how they should respond to serious Cal/OSHA citations and penalties by focusing on:
- Preparing for a Cal/OSHA inspection
- Tips for getting through the inspection process
- How to navigate the Cal/OSHA appeals process
The seminar concludes with “Top Ten Reasons You will be Cited by Cal/OSHA,” Mr. Donlon will talk about the most commonly cited safety violations and citations such as those for the Injury and Illness Prevention Program – the most commonly cited area for violations. He will explain how employers can comply with Cal/OSHA standards and provide attendees with ideas for instituting cost-effective compliance solutions. He will explain the Cal/OSHA inspection process, the rights of employers during this process, and the required written programs employers should have in place. He will also review the free services employers can use from Cal/OSHA Consultation.
The seminar is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to noon on December 4 at the Holiday Inn Civic Center located at 50 8th Street, San Francisco. Registration and complimentary continental breakfast starts at 8:00 a.m. Hotel parking (if space is available) is $5.00. To register, contact Lori Moitoza at (925) 523-5208 or fax to (925) 523-5508, or email to lemoitoza@scif.com. To register online, visit online registration.
