MODESTO/STOCKTON/SAN FRANCISCO -- State Compensation Insurance Fund’s Stockton District Office and the Stanislaus County Farm Bureau will jointly hold a free seminar entitled  “Confined Space in the Workplace” on November 3rd in Modesto. The seminar aims to help employers correctly identify and evaluate confined spaces and the hazards that can accompany them. Confined spaces are prevalent in agriculture, processing and manufacturing and include such workplaces as grain bins, winery tanks, tanker trailers, storage tanks, vaults and pipelines.

Featured speakers are State Fund associate industrial hygiene experts Vince Moretto and David Kernazitskas. Loss control specialists will also be on hand to help policyholders develop a comprehensive confined space safety training program as well as comply with state and federal workplace regulations.

The seminar will help employers learn:

• How to comply with Cal-OSHA regulations on confined space and meet training requirements.
  
• About their legal and ethical responsibilities to prevent tragedies.
  
• About permits required for confined space in the workplace.
  
• How to establish a safe entry and exit from such confined spaces as grain bins, manure pits, storage tanks and sumps.
  
• Engage workers in the safety programs.
  
• Identify ways to prevent injuries.

The workshop is part of a series of educational programs State Compensation Insurance Fund holds throughout the state each year to help employers create safe workplaces, inform them about new workers’ compensation regulations and to reduce workers’ compensation insurance costs.
