October 17, 2006

MONTEREY PARK/SAN FRANCISCO -- State Compensation Insurance Fund will hold a free restaurant supervisor safety-training program in Monterey Park on October 18th. The seminar is designed to help restaurant managers work with their staffs to create comprehensive health and safety plans. The featured speaker for the program will be Deogracia Cornelio, who is the Associate Director of Education for UCLA’s Labor Occupational Safety & Health Program (UCLA-LOSH).

The workshop will help supervisors improve safety in their restaurants by:

  • Providing a one-hour safety training tailored to individual restaurants.
  • Engaging workers in safety programs.
  • Identifying ways to prevent injuries.

Workshop participants will receive educational materials including a restaurant safety-training guide, safety tip sheets, a safety orientation checklist, a model shoe policy, and fact sheets that address issues of concern when employing teens in restaurants.

The seminar is scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at State Fund’s Monterey Park District Office, 900 Corporate Center Drive. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. and free parking is available. Refreshments will be served at the event. To register, please call Nancy Perrah at (323) 981-6756, or send a fax to (323) 266-5543. To register via email, please email, restaurantsafety@scif.com.
