OXNARD/SAN FRANCISCO -- State Fund’s Oxnard District Office on September 28 will hold a free Heat Illness Prevention seminar – to be conducted in Spanish – for agricultural policyholders. The seminar is part of State Fund’s educational outreach to create safe workplaces and inform policyholders on new workers’ compensation regulations.
In August, the State Division of Occupational Safety and Health mandated heat illness education and training for supervisors and their employees.
Featured speakers include State Fund loss control specialists Lorenzo Zwaal and Pedro Acero. The seminar will cover such topics as reducing the risk of heat exposure, recognizing common signs and symptoms, and procedures for responding.
“Oxnard has a large agricultural community. It’s important to educate people on the dangers of heat illness,” said State Fund’s Oxnard District Office Loss Control Manager Rudy Herrera. “We plan to help employers develop an extensive heat related illness training program that can contribute to a safe workplace which benefits everyone.”
The Oxnard workshop is among the many free State Fund seminars held throughout the state to educate employers and employees on workers’ compensation issues including cost savings. State Fund has the largest safety and health services program among California workers’ compensation insurance carriers. The two-hour seminar is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at State Fund’s Oxnard Office located at 2901 North Ventura Road, 2nd floor. To register, please call Mr. Zwaal at (805) 988-5427 or Mr. Acero at (805) 988-5248.
