State Fund Riverside District Office to Host Free Employer Seminar on How to Prevent Workers' Compensation Fraud

Speakers include Riverside County Deputy District Attorney and California Department of Insurance's Fraud Division Chief Investigator

RIVERSIDE -- as part of its commitment to fight workers' compensation insurance fraud, State Fund will host a free fraud prevention seminar for employers at its Riverside District Office. The seminar will take place from 1 - 4 p.m. on Thursday July 14.  State Fund's Riverside District Office is located at 6301 Day Street. Employers attending will hear from state and county law enforcement officials. They will explain how to prevent applicant fraud which drains millions of dollars each year from California's economy.

Employers can register for the seminar - "Fraud - Detect It. Prove it. Prevent It." - by calling State Fund at (951) 697-8580 or faxing their company name and policy number to (951) 413-5787. Featured speakers will be Michael "Bud" Ingram, chief investigator for the California Department of Insurance's (CDI) Fraud Division and Riverside County Deputy District Attorney Paul Fick. A limited number of seats remain for the seminar which is one of the various anti-fraud educational activities and programs for employees at the State Fund's Riverside District Office. The fraud seminar is part of "National Fraud Awareness Week."

State Fund's Fraud Investigation Program Manager Donna Gallagher said, "California’s economy and all of the system's stakeholders - injured workers to employers - benefit from being part of the effort to fight all types of fraud."

State Fund's District Offices across the state schedule free fraud prevention seminars for employers and brokers throughout the year. State Fund has established a toll free hotline (1-888-STOP-FRAUD) for employers to report suspected fraud.

State Fund’s Fraud Investigation Program (FIP) addresses all aspects of workers’ compensation insurance fraud, including employee, employer, medical, legal and internal. In the last decade, State Fund’s FIP has produced hundreds of arrests and convictions in a wide range of workers’ compensation fraud cases, including some considered milestones in California’s fight against fraud.
