State Fund Holds Free Office Ergonomic Workshop For Employers in Oakland April 18 - 19

April 14, 2006

OAKLAND/SAN FRANCISCO – State Compensation Insurance Fund policyholders can learn how to use ergonomics to create a safer workplace at a free workshop at the organization’s Oakland District Office on April 18-19. Ergonomics “the science of fitting the job to the worker rather than forcing the worker to fit the job” has contributed to reducing workplace injuries.

Featured speakers include State Fund’s ergonomic expert R.J. Banks. Also speaking is Chris Shulenberger, Director of Ergonomics for Clayton Group Services – a nationally recognized provider of occupational health and safety services.

All participants will receive a complimentary CD-Rom – “Ergonomics: How May We Help You?” produced by State Fund’s Banks whose ergonomic expertise earned her the 2005 “Employee Safety Award” from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“The two day workshop explores how ergonomics minimizes the risk of office work injuries and musculoskeletal disorders,” said Banks. “Ergonomics is a useful tool that enables employers to develop a safe workplace.”

Topics covered at the workshop include:

  • Understanding the development of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in the office workplace.
  • Understanding the ergonomics problem solving process.
  • Applying ergonomic intervention strategies to common office problems.
  • Developing a customized office ergonomics-training program.

The workshops are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both days at State Fund’s Oakland District Office, 2955 Peralta Oaks Court.  Lunch and snacks will be served for both days in addition to a complimentary continental breakfast.  To learn more about the event, please call (510) 577-3113.

State Fund has the largest safety and health services program among California workers’ compensation carriers. The Oakland workshop is part of a series of educational programs State Compensation Insurance Fund in holding throughout the state in order to help employers create safe workplaces and to inform them about new workers’ compensation regulations.
