State Fund and Humboldt Builders' Exchange Sponsor Free Business Loss Prevention Seminar

January 10, 2006

EUREKA/SAN FRANCISCO -- State Compensation Insurance Fund and Humboldt Builders’ Exchange Inc. will sponsor a “Business Loss Prevention” seminar that is free to employers, brokers and the general public. The seminar is designed to help employers protect their businesses from crimes that can result in financial losses.

Featured speaker is State Fund loss control consultant Enoch Ibarra. In addition to his State Fund safety experience, Mr. Ibarra has worked in crime prevention for a number of years; he serves as volunteer crime prevention specialist for the Fortuna Police Department, part-time instructor at the Redwoods Police Academy and is a member of the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners.

Also speaking will be Suzanne Owsley, crime prevention officer for the Eureka Police Department, who has developed many innovative crime prevention programs. Ms. Owsley said the seminar will help employers recognize and protect themselves and their business from: site theft, business security problems, workplace violence, merchandise refund scams, credit card fraud, delivery scams, fraudulent checks, embezzlement, employee theft and identify theft.

The seminar is scheduled for January 11th from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm at State Fund’s Eureka District Office. The office is located at Humboldt Bank Plaza, 2440 Sixth Street, Eureka. For more information or to register, contact Charlene McCombs of the Humboldt Builders’ Exchange at (707) 442-3708.

The seminar is among the many free educational programs State Fund holds each year throughout California to help employers create safe workplaces, inform them about workers’ compensation regulations and ultimately reduce workers’ compensation costs.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Established by the California Legislature in 1914, State Compensation Insurance Fund guarantees the availability of workers' compensation coverage at cost to all California employers and competes fairly with private carriers. State Fund is a wholly self-supporting non-profit enterprise that serves as a moderating and stabilizing influence on California's workers' compensation insurance system.
