Our Medical Provider Network Offers Your Clients Medical Control
As a broker, one of the most beneficial services you can offer your clients is to help them understand the financial control they can gain by using our Medical Provider Network (MPN). Recognized as a key savings provision of Senate Bill (SB) 899, an MPN enables insurers to provide a network of doctors specially skilled in treating occupational injuries. As a result, this feature:
- Offers your clients medical control for the life of the claim.
- Helps reduce medical costs for your clients and their injured workers.
- Helps reverse the trend of rising medical costs for work-related injuries.
Significant Savings
By using our MPN, your clients can begin to realize significant cost savings. To receive the full benefit of the potential cost reductions, your clients need to channel every one of their injured workers (except those who have predesignated a physician) to our MPN physicians for initial treatment of on-the-job injuries. Taking full advantage of our MPN and California’s other recent reforms can net your clients the best results for reducing claims costs.
Statewide Service
Announced in January 2005 as an expansion of our former health-care network, our new MPN provides injured workers with approved medical facilities close to home or work. Many of the facilities are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Serving your clients throughout California, our MPN combines the skills and expertise of these three professional medical resources:
- Kaiser Permanente.
- The State Fund Preferred Provider Network (PPN).
- A group of providers from the Blue Cross of California Preferred Provider Organization (PPO).
A Network of Choices
After initial treatment with an MPN primary physician, your client’s injured worker can choose a different MPN physician, if preferred, for subsequent treatment of the injury. The medical plan allows for:
- Second and third opinions from other MPN physicians.
- An independent medical review if necessary.
- Referrals to qualified MPN specialists.
Brochures With FAQs
More information is available in our Employee’s Guide to the State Fund Medical Provider Network brochure. The brochure’s Q&A format addresses the following types of inquiries:
- How do I obtain medical treatment?
- How do I choose a doctor?
- What do I do if I disagree with my doctor’s diagnosis or treatment?
- What is Transfer of Ongoing Care?
- What is Continuity of Care?
To obtain a list of local MPN physicians, your clients can go to MEDfinder MPN Seach or call our Claims Reporting Center toll-free.
