MONTEREY PARK/ SAN FRANCISCO -- State Compensation Insurance Fund’s Monterey Park Office will hold a free employer seminar entitled “Enhancing Safety Through Wellness” on Thursday, December 1st. The seminar will look into how the implementation of an effective employer wellness program can help increase employee productivity, improve employee attendance and ultimately, help reduce workers’ compensation costs.
Featured speakers include well-known orthopedic surgeon and work-related injury expert Dr. Ismael Silva; nutritional specialist Dr. Glenn Marshak; State Fund-certified ergonomics expert Ryan Horton and State Fund Senior Loss Control consultant Stefanie Nobriga who is also a certified fitness and yoga instructor.
The seminar includes a Safety and Health Fair, which will provide attendees with resources and information on how to promote “wellness” at the workplace. Attendees will also be able to get the following services free of charge: body-fat testing, fitness counseling, body scan, cholesterol testing, chair massages and ergonomic consultations.
“Wellness is an emerging issue in the safety community and State Fund is taking the lead to educate our policyholders on the benefits of wellness through safety programs,” said State Fund Loss Control consultant Stefanie Nobriga.
Attendees will learn:
- Where to find resources to implement a wellness program
- The benefits of a wellness program
- How to use practical ergonomic tools
- How to prevent industrial and personal injury
- The latest nutritional information

The Monterey Park seminar is among the free State Fund seminars held throughout the year to educate employers, employees, brokers and other system stakeholders about various workers’ compensation issues including how to decrease workers’ compensation costs.
