State Fund Offers Free Seminar on Safety Training for Supervisors on November 8 in Oxnard

October 31, 2007

OXNARD/SAN FRANCISCO – State Compensation Insurance Fund is presenting a safety-training seminar for supervisors as part of State Fund’s Employer Education Series. The bilingual program--Spanish in the morning and English in the afternoon--is designed to help employers maintain a high level of control over work-site safety and motivate employees to follow safe practices. Seminar presentations, which State Fund is offering at no charge, will take place on November 8 at State Fund’s Oxnard District Office.

This “General Safety Training for Supervisors” seminar can help employers, frontline managers and supervisors, safety managers, maintenance supervisors--anyone responsible for employee safety--understand their role in promoting safety at their workplace. Supervision is a fundamental element in the challenge to minimize the probability of an injury or illness on the job. The goal of the seminar is to encourage those in authority to prioritize safe work practices and convey the importance of safety to their employees.

Speakers for the event are State Fund Loss Control Consultants Pedro Acero and Jose Gutierrez of the Oxnard District Office. As safety experts with nearly 40 years of combined experience, Acero and Gutierrez will discuss key injury prevention strategies that supervisors can apply to business work sites to minimize the risk of accidents. They will also stress the importance of having a safety program closely aligned with the work performed.

Valuable insights will help attendees establish safety processes and systems. Once in place, the processes and systems can help reduce injury and illness rates, which, in turn, can reduce workers' compensation premiums. Attendees also will learn to:

  • Identify the underlying causes of safety incidents.
  • Evaluate their work sites for unsafe conditions.
  • Correct the problematic areas.
  • Set the standard for safe behavior through their own actions.
  • Gain employee cooperation and active participation in improving safety.
  • Lead safety meetings that encourage employee involvement and responsibility.

The seminar will take place at State Fund’s Oxnard District Office, 2901 N. Ventura Road, 2nd Floor Conference Room, Oxnard, on Thursday, November 8. The Spanish morning session is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.; the English afternoon session is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. On-site registration begins 30 minutes prior to each session’s start time. Free parking is available.

To help ensure admission to this free event while seating is still available, State Fund encourages early registration online, or by e-mail (apaldana@scif.com), phone (call Alberto Aldana at (805) 988-5270 or Pedro Acero at (805) 988-5248), or fax (Attention: Alberto Aldana (805) 988-5201).
