State Compensation Insurance Fund is presenting a seminar on construction safety that focuses on the challenges that contractors face in their efforts to prevent accidents on the job. Entitled “Construction Safety: Compliance vs. Best Practices,” the seminar addresses how to prevent accidents by complying with established state standards, how to avoid costly fines, and how to develop a safety plan specific to the work site. Offered at no charge, the presentations of seminar topics are scheduled for Wednesday morning, October 17, at State Fund’s Monterey Park District Office.
The construction trade presents unique challenges to contractors who are required to comply with Cal/OSHA standards, run an efficient productive job site, and keep their employees safe from injuries under hazardous conditions that can change from day to day, while working under demanding time constraints. To address these issues, two featured speakers will apply their expertise and experience: Safety and Accident Prevention Consultant Don Cunningham, and Director of Risk Management Services Michael Kerney, AGC, ARM.
Don Cunningham will discuss “Cal/OSHA Standards Every Contractor Should Know” to help contractors:
- Learn the required Cal/OSHA standards.
- Save time and money by focusing on the problems most likely to occur.
- Use the Internet to learn the causes of each craft’s most serious injuries and avoid them.
- Learn the “Top Ten” Cal/OSHA citations and how to avoid them.
Mike Kerney will present “Best Practices: Establishing a Worksite Specific Safety Plan (WSSSP)” so contractors can:
- Incorporate Cal/OSHA standards.
- Identify the hazards associated with specific work areas.
- Utilize best practices.
- Effectively communicate this information to employees.
- Involve superintendents and foremen in safety and tailgate meetings.
State Fund is hosting the seminar at its Monterey Park District Office, 900 Corporate Center Drive, Monterey Park, on Wednesday, October 17, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. On-site registration and complimentary continental breakfast begin at 8:15 a.m. Free parking is available.
Seating is limited, so State Fund encourages signing up early using online registration, or by e-mail (btebangin@scif.com), phone (call Brian Tebangin at (323) 266-5045), or fax (Attention: Brian Tebangin (323) 526-2181).
