 Dear Fellow Employees:
In my recent letter prefacing our 2004 Annual Report, I wrote the following about State Fund employees: “I commend them for their loyalty, skill and determination. They are the finest group of professionals that I have ever had the pleasure to work with in my more than 30 years of workers’ compensation experience.” I meant that then, and I mean it now.
Your concern for the people who are suffering as a result of Hurricane Katrina, is absolutely awe-inspiring. As some of you know, I have a deep affection for the people of New Orleans and the South and a passion for the land that was so brutally impacted by this recent tragedy. Because of that, your extraordinary efforts to offer aid to the victims of Katrina have deeply touched me.
If it were possible I would thank each of you personally. Since that’s impossible, I wanted to take this opportunity to share my gratitude with all of you.
Many districts and departments have engaged in a variety of activities to raise money for the people who need help so urgently. Activities have ranged from collecting donations from events such as ice cream sales to breakfast fundraisers. One district initiated a campaign for clothing, food, and other personal items and launched a driving caravan for delivery to the impacted areas. An employee who is a registered nurse has taken two weeks vacation time so that she could travel to Baton Rouge to assist in a shelter for hurricane victims.
Another group researched and circulated information on how to become a volunteer and how to assist the efforts for pet recovery. Employees of still another district contributed over $2,500 for families impacted by the floods and that amount was matched by the district’s Community Service Committee resulting in nearly $5000 in total contributions.
And of course, countless numbers of you immediately sent money to the Red Cross or other organizations to help bring relief to the survivors.
I couldn’t be more proud of State Fund and I am honored to be associated with such wonderful people.
Thank you,
J.C. Tudor
