State Fund Hosts 'Office Ergonomics' Workshop for Riverside Policyholders

September 23, 2005

Ergonomics is ‘fitting the job to the worker rather than forcing the worker to fit the job.’

RIVERSIDE/SAN FRANCISCO -- The benefits of ergonomics will be the subject of a free workshop at State Fund’s Riverside District Office to be held on September 27-28. The program is part of a series of State Fund educational workshops to create safe workplaces and inform employers on new workers’ compensation regulations.

Featured speakers include R.J. Banks, supervisor of the Ergonomics Services Unit of State Fund’s Safety & Health Services Department. Also speaking is Chris Shulenberger, Director of Ergonomics for Clayton Group Services, a nationwide provider of occupational and safety services.

Participants will receive a complimentary CD-Rom - “Ergonomics: How May We Help You?” produced by State Fund’s Banks whose efforts earned her a 2005 “Employee Safety Award” from Governor Schwarzenegger last month.

“The seminar will outline how ergonomics minimizes the risk of injuries and musculoskeletal disorders,” said Banks. “Ergonomics is a discipline which can be a useful tool and enable employers to develop a safe workplace.”

Topics covered at the seminar include:

  • Understanding Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders.
  • Applying ergonomic intervention strategies.
  • Developing a customized office ergonomics-training program.

State Fund has the largest safety and health services program among California workers’ compensation carriers. The Riverside workshop is among the many free State Fund seminars held throughout the state to educate employers and employees on workers’ compensation issues including cost savings.
