State Fund Holds Free Insurance Risk Assessment Seminar for Employers in Riverside, July 18

July 13, 2006

RIVERSIDE/SAN FRANCISCO - State Compensation Insurance Fund policyholders can learn how to lower their workers’ compensation insurance premiums in a free seminar at the organization’s Riverside District Office on July 18.  The seminar, “Experience Rating Fundamentals,” is designed to help employers determine if they can reduce their rates by understanding how their loss history and safety record affect their premiums.

Featured speakers include Michael Vail, policyholder ombudsman from the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau (WCIRB), and State Fund Loss Control Consultant Katherine Moore who will give a short presentation entitled, "Fewer Injuries, Lower Modification."  State Fund Sr. Claims Training Coordinator Leilani Carlson will serve as master of ceremonies.

“The seminar examines how employers can evaluate their risk through experience modification,” said Carlson. “It can be of great benefit to them financially and also give them the opportunity to evaluate their own safety and injury records.”

Topics covered at the seminar include:

  • How experience modifications are developed.
  • Factors used to arrive at experience modification.
  • The importance of prevention and being proactive to address safety issues.
  • The need for thorough accident investigation to reduce future claims.

The workshop is from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at State Fund’s Riverside District Office, 6301 Day Street, Fourth Floor.  To register for the event, please call Celine Reeves at (951) 697-8580, or send a fax to (951) 413-5787.

The Riverside seminar is part of a series of educational programs State Compensation Insurance Fund is holding throughout the state in order to help employers create safe workplaces and to inform them about new workers’ compensation regulations.
