OXNARD/SAN FRANCISCO - State Compensation Insurance Fund will sponsor a free restaurant-safety training program at its Oxnard office on April 27. The workshop is designed to help restaurant supervisors and owners create a comprehensive safety-training program and comply with state and federal workplace regulations.
The featured speaker for the program will be Carol Frischman, Director of the Youth Project for the UCLA's Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program. Carol also coordinates the Restaurant Supervisor Safety Training Program at UCLA's LOSH, a public service branch of the University's Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH).
“One of the best strategies to prevent job injuries and illnesses is regular health and safety training for employees,” said Frischman. “This program, tailored to restaurant owners, will help them design a creative, simple health and safety plan that benefits everyone.”
Workshop participants will receive educational materials including training guides, safety tip sheets, safety orientation checklists and information policy sheets.
The workshop will demonstrate how restaurant supervisors and owners can meet Cal/OSHA requirements by:
- Providing a one-hour safety training tailored to individual restaurants.
- Engaging workers in safety programs.
- Identifying ways to prevent injuries.
The seminar is from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at State Fund’s Oxnard District Office, 2901 North Ventura Road. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. and free parking is available. Refreshments will be served at the event. To register, please call Lorenzo Zwaal at (805) 988-5427 or send a fax to (805) 988-6289.
The event is funded by the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation. The program is part of the Commission's Worker Occupational Safety and Health Training and Education Program (WOSHTEP).
State Fund has the largest safety and health services program among California workers’ compensation carriers. The Oxnard seminar is part of a series of educational programs State Compensation Insurance Fund is holding throughout the state in order to help employers create safe workplaces.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Established by the California Legislature in 1914, State Compensation Insurance Fund guarantees the availability of workers' compensation coverage at cost to all California employers and competes fairly with private carriers. State Fund is a wholly self-supporting non-profit enterprise that serves as a moderating and stabilizing influence on California's workers' compensation insurance system.
