Heat Illness Prevention Seminars Offered Statewide This summer’s record temperatures have increased the threat of workplace heat illness and made heat safety a vital concern for all employers. To help workers stay healthy and safe on the job, State Fund is sponsoring Heat Illness Prevention seminars across the state. The seminars are free and open to the public and provide essential information on controlling heat-related risks.
“The unprecedented heat wave throughout California underscores the importance of these seminars,” said State Fund Acting President James C. Tudor in announcing the seminar expansion. “By making these seminars available to the general public during the current heat crisis, we hope to help increase public awareness and offer pertinent information about heat illness prevention.”
By attending one of the seminars, you’ll receive expert guidance in preventing heat illness as well as recognizing and responding to its symptoms. We are co-hosting many of the seminars in partnership with the Cal/OSHA Consultation Service. The seminars will cover lifesaving topics such as:
- Preventing heat-related illnesses.
- Identifying the signs and symptoms of heat illness.
- Understanding environmental and personal risk factors.
- Reviewing current regulations pertaining to heat illness.
- Determining how to respond to heat stress emergencies.
This training (which includes materials you’ll receive at the seminar) can make a real difference for you and your employees. With your knowledge of heat-related risks, you will be able to:
- Take immediate steps to reduce the risk of heat illness in your workplace and on your jobsites.
- Implement ongoing policies and training to control and mitigate heat illness.
- Update your operations in accordance with new Cal/OSHA regulations (enacted in June 2006) on heat illness prevention standards. The regulations mandate training of supervisors and employees and updates to your Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
One of State Fund’s core missions is helping employers provide safe places to work. Our commitment to policyholder education and consultation is second to none, and it helps us deliver on our responsibility to California employers and workers. By hosting heat illness prevention seminars all over California and opening them to the public, we are furthering our dedication to safe workplaces.
State Fund has scheduled seminars through early October.
